Abstract This special issue presents the outcomes from “ Designing sustainable and circular agricultural systems for year 2100 ,” joint scientific workshop of ISOFAR, Thünen-Institute, INRA-Morocco, which was held November 14 to 16, 2019 in Marrakesh, Morocco. Nineteen scientists a broad array background nationalities came together with understanding that food security globally is at risk, especially post-2050 timeframe. Current concepts, strategies, measures, efforts carried out by governments, NGOs, businesses, societies do not deliver satisfying solutions how sustainably produce enough healthy affordable support global population. With economic social impact Covid-19 pandemic 2020, it became even more evident challenge. took an innovative approach addressing challenges future agriculture considering sustainable, systems. Participants presented research results on algae-based food, edible insects, mushrooms, novel concepts nutrient management, bioreactor-based farming, culture, as well sensor- remote-controlled automatic production. papers contributed discussions.
